About the Organization

Who We Are

The Montagnard Support Group (MSG) is a political organization that advocates for the restoration of the Dega people's rights to self-determination, freedom, and independence as a sovereign nation.

MSG was found in 2011 by former members of the defunct Dega FLHPM organization (Liberation Front of the Montagnard Plateau-Highlands; commonly known as FULRO). Our organization is based in North Carolina, United States of America. We are completely volunteer-run. We are not a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We intentionally choose not to get nonprofit status, although the work that we do is not-for-profit. This is to ensure we achieve justice for the Dega people through political activities.

The Problem

Since Vietnamese occupation of Dega (Montagnard) Country in the 1950s our people have suffered terribly. We have faced gross human rights abuses by Vietnam including the illegal annexation of our country, genocide, persecution, discrimination, and forced displacement from Dega territory. In 2001 and 2004 Vietnam violently responded to peaceful protests for an independent Dega nation. Thousands were forced to flee our homeland, yet again, to escape persecution. Demonstrators were imprisoned for their political and social justice activities. Their sentences ranged from 2 months up to 17 years. There are Dega political prisoners still in jail to this day.

The Solution

Vision

We want to live in a world where Dega sovereignty is recognized, restored and supported like that of other nations. We want to live in a world where Dega Country lives in peace and cooperation with our neighbors in Southeast Asia, as we did before. We want to live in a world where human rights violations do not occur and where territorial integrity is honored.

We seek to move closer toward global justice, liberation, and peace.

Mission

Our mission is to restore the independence of Dega Country as a sovereign nation, as it was before foreign occupation. We demand freedom be returned to the Dega people who have the right to self-determination on our ancestral and national territory in the Central Highlands (formerly Dega Country).

We work to ensure the survival, safety, development, and nationhood of the Dega people.
